Dumbo

This movie soared to great heights for my kids! A great film to watch with the whole family! My daughter loved seeing all the animals and sang the catchy songs for days! I have special songs that I sing to each of my kids at bedtime and was so relieved that she recognized my out-of-tune singing to be “Baby Mine”. That is one of my all-time favorite Disney songs. I hope she always treasures those memories when she hears it.

My son laid back and enjoyed the movie, but my daughter brought up a million questions! Why are they traveling with animals? Can we go to the Circus? Why are they being mean to Dumbo?? Did a stork drop off her little brother? We had to break it to her that the circus is gone and that was not acceptable to my 3 year old. So we had to promise her a trip to the Zoo. We had to explain that sometimes people bully others for being different and that’s wrong. And no, Little Mister didn’t arrive by Stork Express.

Dumbo is such a sweet movie that is loved by all ages. There’s only one exception to that rule, my mother can not watch it without ugly crying, so she refuses to watch it. I love the friendship that Dumbo and Timothy Mouse have, almost a flashback of Pinocchio with Jiminy Cricket. Timothy helps Dumbo thru the separation with his mom and helps him realize his potential. I love the quote “The very things that hold you down are going to lift you up”.
The love that Mrs. Jumbo has for her baby can be understood by every mother. I would do anything for my kids and heaven help anyone that hurts them! The only thing I find strange in the film is the psychedelic dream scene. I don’t think “Pink elephants on Parade” could be used in kid movies anymore.

We served circus themed food and the kids couldn’t have been more excited! My husband and I haven’t eaten these goodies since we were little. Corn dogs, Cotton Candy, and Homemade Cracker Jacks! All was missing was the styrofoam circus peanuts… ick.

I found some bags of cotton candy at the grocery store and made a cone out of paper so it would look like ice cream. I thought the Cracker Jack recipe was better than the original! It a really simple recipe that will want you craving for more! I think the cute disposable popcorn containers I found at the grocery store added a nice touch too.
