Inside Out Movie Night

Who’s the friend that likes to play? Bing Bong, Bing Bong!

Today, we spent the day crafting and making delicious treats for our Inside Out movie night.

Since the movie is full of emotions, I wanted to incorporate some of the lessons with my kids. Crafting doesn’t come easy for me, so I reached out to my friend Alana. She has the best activities and sensory projects on her IG account, Book.obsessed.mama. She suggested some great playdoh and emotion recognition ideas and a calming bottle also. My toddlers have so many crazy emotions so I hoped the later would help calm some nerves. I’ve seen it made multiple ways on Pinterest, but I liked how the glitter slowed down using baby oil better than glue. I filled an old water bottle, filled it with baby oil, a drop or two of dish soap, and then let my kids pour in the glitter and mickey confetti. I don’t know about the kids, but I found it very soothing and spent too much of my afternoon looking at it.

Bonus tip: The Mickey confetti came with our coffee cozies from Happily Ever Cozies. I couldn’t bare to throw it away and so glad I didn’t! You should check out her shop, she makes the most magical crocheted cozies. I’m a bit obsessed with my new Gus Gus Cozy.

For dinner, I incorporated the broccoli pizza from the movie into our movie night, so we made my mom’s Cold Veggie Pizza. My kids love broccoli, but you could top it with anything you really enjoy.  You can’t go wrong with the Ranch flavored base too.

For dessert, we made Bing Bong’s Pretzel Sticks inspired by Bing Bong’s Sweet Shop at Disney’s Pixar Pier. It’s the perfect combination of salty and sweet! Highly addictive too, I’ve made them three separate times since I found Disney Hungry’s recipe. Click here for the recipe. The only thing I did differently was adding a thin layer of powdered sugar on the wax paper so the caramel doesn’t stick. A sweet trick from my mom when she was a confectioner. There won’t be any caramel pulling or pretzels breaking using the powdered sugar and it won’t mess with the taste either.

They are as colorful and sweet as Bing Bong and the perfect movie night snack.

I wasn’t sure if I would be able to continue doing our movie nights with my husband training 24/7 and with our upcoming move.  Inside Out ended up being the perfect movie for us and gave me hope for the long days ahead. As long as we have each other, we can get thru anything. So if I don’t post often, that’s the reason, but we’ll find a new groove and hope you stick around.
