Bourbon Balls

It wouldn’t be Derby Day without these Kentucky sweets! If you haven’t heard of them before, let me clue you in. They’re made by dipping a bourbon-infused buttercream center in dark chocolate! Sounds amazing right!? So grab your prettiest hat, tune in for the race, and have one, or two or three, of these delectable Bourbon Balls!

Note: These DO have alcohol in them, so they are NOT appropriate  for children. I make another special treat for my kids and keep the Bourbon balls out of their reach.

Bourbon Balls

  • Servings: 14-18
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Ingredients

½ cup unsalted butter, at room temp
4 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup bourbon
1 lb dark chocolate melting wafers

Directions

Combine butter, powdered sugar and bourbon together in a standing mixer.

Refrigerate 2 hours, or until hardened.

Form the buttercream into small 1-inch balls and place on waxed paper, refrigerate until firm.

Once the candies have harden, melt chocolate according to package directions. Remove candies from refrigerator and dip candies in melted chocolate one at a time with a two prong fork. Shake off excess, but not too much or the insides will leak out. You will want each one completely covered in the chocolate. Set candy back on wax paper until chocolate is firm. Refrigerate to speed up the process.

Store in refrigerator until ready to serve.

Note: I take a plastic fork and break the two inside prongs off to create an easy candy dipper.

Note: These DO have alcohol in them, so they are NOT appropriate for children. I make another special treat for my kids and keep the Bourbon balls out of their reach. Recipe from: Amagicalkingdomcalledhome.com
